Born and educated in Switzerland, wildlife photographer André
Bärtschi specializes in the natural history of tropical forests.
He traveled to the Amazonian Peru and Bolivia for the first time in 1976.
Since then he spends part of the year in the remotest places of the New
World tropics. His work has been published worldwide in a number of nature
books, including one about Manu National Park and in magazines such as
GEO, BBC Wildlife, International Wildlife, Natural History, Smithsonian
and National Geographic. His latest book "Where the Andes meet the
Amazon" was recently published.
Several of his photos won awards in the annual BBC Wildlife Photographer
of the Year Competition and in 1992 he was awarded the top prize in this
largest and most prestigious international contest of its kind.
As a wildlife photographer, André strives to document the undisturbed
beauty of tropical nature, but also the devastating effects of its systematic
destruction, using his images as a powerful conservation weapon. André
Bärtschi is based in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, where he lives together
with his wife Cornelia and their children, Manuel, Carla and Julian.
